In 2019-2020, GBA Consulting Engineers designed a new culvert crossing for Range Barranga Road at Mimosa Creek for Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC). The existing culvert had broken and the timber bridge was failing, so much so that it was unsafe for traffic to cross and a side track had to be constructed. GBA designed a new culvert consisting of ten reinforced concrete box culvert cells and upstream and downstream rock protection to provide 1 year ARI flood immunity for the crossing. In this location Mimosa Creek is classified as a “purple waterway” and so design for fish passage also had to be considered and approved by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Following the design, GBA then assisted CHRC in administering the tender process. Once a suitable Contractor was found, CHRC administered the construction contract. The new culvert has now been completed, providing better outcomes to both the community and the environment.
